Viamede Resort on Stoney Lake Top Ontario Resort for People and their Pets

Kawartha Lakes, Ontario (PRWEB) July 24, 2014

Over the past three years, Viamede Resort (, a full-service resort and conference centre on Stoney Lake in the Kawarthas, has undergone a remarkable transformation. With a change in ownership, sweeping improvements have been made to the historic resort, including an extensive renovation program that has brought back “the grand lady of the Kawarthas” to its former glory and into the twenty-first-century. Now one of Ontario’s Finest Hotels, Inns and Spas, the management of Viamede Resort continues to search for ways to set their resort apart from the competition and provide an Ontario resort vacation experience like no other. They have also been paying close attention to what their customers have been saying, and, as a result, have introduced a pet-friendly policy that is one of the most comprehensive in the Ontario hospitality industry.

Along with making all of its cottages pet-friendly, Viamede has made several additions to the resort so that pets will have as much fun on their vacation as their owners. They have added a large, fully-fenced dog-park and 6-kilometres of off-leash walking trails so that pets can get some exercise and have some serious playtime. The resort also provides items like dog beds, food and water dishes, leashes, doggy bags, and of course, treats. Viamede does make a few requests of guests staying with pets so that everyone vacationing at the resort enjoys their stay, both those with pets and those without. They ask that guests bring only pets that are friendly and house-trained and that the pets remain on a leash, except in designated off-lease areas. They also request that pets be crated when left alone in the cottage to allow the housekeeping staff to provide daily service. If crating is not an option, Viamede is happy to make alternative arrangements.

According to Viamede owner and innkeeper Ben Sämann, there is a big demand for good quality pet-friendly resort accommodations, as many pet-owners are reluctant to leave their pets behind while they go on vacation. “As a pet-owner, I know how difficult it can be to find a great vacation spot that will accommodate me and my dog. That is why we felt compelled to make Viamede a pet-friendly resort where pet-owners can stay in a luxury lakeside cottage with their pet and enjoy a great vacation together,” says Sämann.

Viamede Resort is a staunch supporter of Golden Rescue, a non-profit organization that finds good homes for unwanted and abandoned Golden Retrievers. As well as sponsoring many Golden Rescue events, and fostering and adopting rescue dogs, Viamede has created the Maggie Fund in memory of Maggie, a Golden Retriever adopted through Golden Rescue who served as the resort’s first mascot and director of “Ruffreation.” Viamede will donate $ 10 to Golden Rescue for every dog that stays at the resort, and if the dog happens to be a Golden Retriever, Viamede will double the donation.

About Viamede Resort: A member of Ontario’s Finest Hotels, Inns and Spas, Viamede Resort is a historic full-service hotel and conference centre with over 50 private rooms and pet-friendly cottages on the shores of beautiful Stoney Lake. Located in the Kawarthas, just thirty minutes outside of Peterborough, this landmark Ontario resort offers three restaurants, a full-service spa, marina, convention facilities, wedding chapel, and 165 acres of pristine wilderness. Midtown Concierge Brings Work-Life Balance to Henry Ford Hospital Employees While Supporting Local Businesses

Detroit, Michigan (PRWEB) August 12, 2014

For some of the busiest professionals in Detroit – the physicians, nurses and health care teams at Henry Ford Hospital – it’s now easier to find work life balance with support to schedule an oil change, make dinner plans, buy gifts, get tickets to sporting and concerts events and complete other daily errands, all while at work.

Henry Ford Hospital has partnered with Midtown Detroit, Inc. and Balance Concierge to create Midtown Concierge, a service that works with local Midtown and City of Detroit businesses to provide goods and services to the hospital campus’ 6,000 employees, often at a discounted rate.

Through Balance Concierge, Midtown Concierge offers personal assistance to hospital employees for routine tasks that often seem overwhelming when combined with a busy work and personal life.

The in-house service is free to Henry Ford Hospital employees; they only pay for the items or services requested.

“We feel very strongly that our hospital employees need a healthy work-life balance to be able to deliver the best possible care to our patients and their families,” says John Popovich Jr., M.D., President and CEO of Henry Ford Hospital.

“Midtown Concierge is truly a great partnership in that it brings a sense of relief to our employees’ busy schedules, while at the same time supporting and growing businesses in our community.”

The idea for Midtown Concierge originated with Sue Mosey, President of Midtown Detroit, Inc., as a way to allow those who work in the city to explore the new, burgeoning businesses in Midtown, many of which they won’t find in their hometowns.

“Whether you’re living in Detroit or elsewhere, this new service makes it possible to play a role in the success of Midtown businesses, especially those who have little time during the workday to frequent the restaurants, shops and businesses in Midtown,” says Mosey.

Midtown Concierge takes care of employees’ to-do lists by:

Arranging services: Auto repair, pet supply delivery, dry cleaning
Making plans: Child care, vacation and reservations
Coordinating dinners: Healthy meals to go and catering options
Researching products and information: Consumer reports, online shopping and price comparisons
Ordering tickets, flowers and gifts: Concert, theater and sporting event tickets; flower and gift recommendations and delivery
Providing savings: Restaurants, salon and venue discounts throughout Midtown Detroit
Planning parties: Birthdays, graduations, wedding and anniversaries

How Midtown Concierge Works

Henry Ford Hospital employees can either visit the Midtown Concierge office located in the hospital, or call, email or submit an online request through a custom Midtown Concierge employee portal.

The Midtown Concierge team, stationed at Henry Ford Hospital, then goes to work to make appointments, order items and have the delivered, or gather information for the employee about a product or service.

Midtown Concierge is being piloted at Henry Ford Hospital, with the hope of rolling it out to other Henry Ford Health System facilities in Detroit.

Hidden Gem Re-emerges as Elvyn Lea Lodge: 1950s Northern Michigan Inn Finds New Beginning

Boyne City, MI (PRWEB) August 12, 2014

A northern Michigan inn is getting a fresh start under the stewardship of new owners Michael and Monica Farrier, who purchased the former Village Inn (later known as the Boyne Valley Lodge) and 44 acre grounds in fall of 2013. They renamed it Elvyn Lea Lodge, a name that captures the enchanted feel of the property and reflects its new purpose as a northern Michigan retreat.

It all began nearly sixty years ago, when businessman Harland McKinnon imagined an inn crafted from pine, with a huge central fireplace to ease the chill of the Michigan winter. He pictured it at the base of the hills, set back among the trees along the stretch of road that winds along Walloon Lake between the resort towns of Walloon Village and Boyne City. When he heard that the Interstate was about to go through, he sold his Florida motel, moved his family north, and built his dream (with a house to match) and proudly named it the Village Inn (see historical photos at He knew that groups of skiers would follow, needing lodging and services, and come they have since those early days of the 1950s and through all the years since.

In time the property changed hands several times, and along the way the name was changed from the Village Inn to the Boyne Valley Lodge. The ski industry of northern Michigan increased in size and sophistication, and lodging options for skiers grew. Previous owners adapted by hosting youth sports and band camps, church groups, and family reunions. An athletic field (now used as a private event lawn) was created, along with an extensive network of trails. With the lawn and trails plus lodging and food service on site, the property is now getting noticed as an exciting new venue for weddings and events.

As demographics of the area and interests of travelers evolve, the current owners see new opportunities all around them. They draw upon their varied backgrounds as they move forward with their plans. An inventor and engineer, Michael Farrier has found new applications for his design and problem solving skills in the process of renovating the building and caring for the grounds. Monica’s work in health and hospitality fields, along with her training in real estate, provides inspiration and valuable experience. The couple has lived in Michigan and California, and previously restored and sold their Spanish Mission-style home in San Jose before returning to live in Michigan permanently in 2009. They share broad interests in historic preservation, education, art, and healthy living, and envision building a community of like-minded visitors who will come here to enjoy the natural beauty of the property and area. The lodge caters mainly to groups, though there are opportunities for individuals and couples to visit.

Recognizing the need for improvements to meet modern standards, the new owners are upgrading rooms, services, and amenities, while retaining the historic charm of the lodge. In a time when the pace is accelerating elsewhere, life here remains slow and easy. Guests sit around the fire in rocking chairs, go for walks on the trails that wind through the 44 acre property, breathe in the fresh air, and spend quality time with loved ones away from the pressures of home. They enjoy fresh, locally sourced foods and services such as massages and yoga classes. As quality improves, new visitors are discovering Elvyn Lea. “The property has been off the radar as a destination for many of the adult travelers we are now reaching,” says Monica Farrier. “It’s a thrill to see guests come for the first time, and to see their surprise when they realize that this special place has been here all along. We think that Harland McKinnon would be happy and proud to see that his vision has endured, and that his inn continues to be a home up north for visitors who love northern Michigan.”
